4Fourteen – Surry Hills | Food Blog

I had a wonderful evening at 4Fourteen last night!

We had the CJ’s Chips and Dips (Chard and Crackling) as our first appetiser. The crackling was very crispy and the mayo sauce that come with it goes so well with chips.

As entrees I ordered the Alaskan Crab. While very refreshing, the dish was very minty so we focused on sharing the other entree which was Miso Smoked Salmon Lemon Curd and Fennel Lavosh. The Lavosh works so well with the smoked salmon and was lovely.

The food was amazing so far and the Tripe ‘Hot Pot’ with Chickpeas and Tomato was definitely our favourite! I never had tripe cooked the Spanish way before, and was so surprised how well it goes with tomato and bread.

The Grilled Rodriguez Chorizo with Pickled Chilli, Capers and Cornichons was another one of my favourite. Just the right amount of spicyness. By then I was almost full.

Was the same night football was on (Sydney FC vs Western Sydney Wanderers), we sat inside enjoying the food while looking out at fan cheering for their team.

My main, the Whole Stuffed Brooks Trout was in fact a whole trout (I thought it would have been a fillet). It’s very tender and juicy, unfortunately there’s quiet a bit of bones to sort through.

Smoked Beef Brisket, Roast Potatoes, Onion Rings was delicious. The beef brisket was so soft and the gravy is amazing. Wouldn’t mind having this again next time.

I was impressed with the side, Charred Salt Crust Sweet Potato with Smoked Potato Mayonnaise. I love the smoked flavour of the sweet potato. Highly Recommended!!

Overall it has been a wonderful night. The vibe is very pleasant and the waiters are so nice. Thinking about bringing more people for dinner next time.

Cheers,

Cynthia
